Cloves, Whole


Ingredients: whole cloves

A key ingredient in gingerbread and pumpkin pie, cloves can also be used to flavor sauces, soups, and stews. Use it to enhance the flavor of apples, root vegetables, ham, oranges, chocolate, squash, and sweet potatoes. It is also perfect for use in mulled wine, cider, chai, and eggnog. Or, boil with cinnamon sticks and water for a festive potpourri.

A little goes a long way with this warm pungent spice.

Use a spice grinder or mortar and pestle to freshly grind the whole cloves. 1 whole clove is equal to 1/4 tsp of clove powder.
