Kala Namak Black Salt
Ingredients: Indian black salt, herbs
Indian black salt, or kala namak, is an Indian volcanic rock salt commonly used as a flavor enhancer in Pakistan, India, and other South Asian countries. It’s distinctive sulfur smell and taste makes it a favorite of vegans, particularly in dishes where egg flavor is being replicated like in scrambled tofu and vegan mayonnaise. A little goes a long way, so use sparingly to add umami-rich flavor to chaat, breads, chickpeas, fruit, potatoes, and roasted vegetables.
Ayurvedic healers believe that this type of black salt can be therapeutic and is used to help digestive problems and to support gut and heart health. Black salt tends to have less sodium than table salt so it may be helpful to people on low-salt diets.
